Week of March 9, 2009
Monday, 3/9
1. Complete Caught ‘Ya grammar and vocabulary activity.
2. Check over the answers to The Word Within a Word pages 5 & 7 together. Discuss how to solve analogies and decipher the meaning of unknown vocabulary words.
3. Read the novel, Peak, and answer guiding questions about it.
4. Work on vocabulary flashcards from Peak.
Tuesday, 3/10
1. Discuss the novel, Peak.
2. Hand out the worksheets over Figurative Language from Peak. Go over the types of figurative language and examples from the novel. Discuss the assignment on the worksheet (this will be an ongoing assignment as the students read the novel). Students will take notes on types of figurative language in their LA binders.
3. Hand out the adverb packet for completion. These should be completed and ready to check in class on Thursday.
Wednesday, 3/11
1. Caught ‘Ya grammar and vocabulary activity.
2. Answer a journal question about the novel.
3. Read the novel, Peak, and answer guided reading questions. Students should also continue to work on the vocabulary flashcards and the figurative language activity as they read the novel.
4. Find examples of adverbs from the novel.
Thursday, 3/12
1. Check adverb packets.
2. Work on verb flashcards and figurative language activity.
3. Read the novel and answer/discuss guided reading questions.
Friday, 3/13
1. Watch a film about mountain climbing. Discuss the requirements, training, etc., needed to accomplish this feat.
