Well, the final month of the year is here! Please take a look at the Upcoming Events page for information about the activities planned for this month.

In class we will be working on two fun projects: The Children’s Book project and the Poetry Project.

Each student may work either alone or with a partner to write a children’s book. All of the completed books will be donated to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital as part of our Schilling Shares activity. This is a very exciting and fulfilling assignment which everyone seems to enjoy. Completed books will be due on May 14.

Our next project is called “A Pocket Full of Poems”. I will teach my students how to write a variety of poems during class each day. Students are encouraged to write on topics that interest them the most. We will practice and work on the rough drafts of the poems in class. The final project is to be typed and turned in by May 14. Many students in the past enjoyed creating some very original pockets to put their poems in! I am looking forward to reading the final product.

The final week of school will be spent sharing poems and stories and reviewing what has been learned this year. My enriched class will also be taught how to diagram sentences in preparation for honors classes next year.

It has been a very busy but enjoyable year for me. It will be sad to see everyone move on, but hopefully each of my students will feel prepared and confident about freshman English next year.
